Student Story

“Based on my experience as a student, The International Program in the Undergraduate Degree within the Faculty of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering played a huge role in preparing students for their future studies and careers. The program gives an additional exposure and global readiness for students upon their graduation from the faculty, such as by joining International-level conferences and International Exchange Program to various partner universities in around the world. Personally, I am feeling very fortunate to be able to participate in one of its exchange program, as I completed an international-level conference in Oxford, United Kingdom, during my exchange period to the University of Sheffield, to present partial works of my thesis.

During the whole study period, especially as an aerospace engineering students, we were not just being asked to study based on textbooks and literatures, but also requested to be able to complete project-based learnings, through engineering design projects (i.e. Introduction to Engineering and Design, Finite Element Method, Analysis and Design of Lightweight Structures, Aircraft Design Project, and several more). Furthermore, on the final year, we were also given the opportunity to experience industrial working experience based on our interests. In our last project, the Undergraduate Thesis, which also dependent to each of our interest, we could pick out of three available research groups (Flight Physics, Lightweight Structures, and Aircraft Design, Operation, and Maintenance) and several laboratories (i.e. Lightweight Structures Laboratory, Aerodynamics Laboratory, Aircraft Design Studio).

In the upcoming stage, being an alumnus of ITB brings an ultimate responsibility to build this nation yet also a prideful feeling. The graduates of each class year have a lot of diversities about their next steps. There are ones that decided to straightly work in the industry, but there are also a bunch of men and women that wanted to continue their study right away.

I am currently continuing my study at the postgraduate level in FMAE via GTA scheme ITB, as one of the nation’s best engineering universities, offered a lot of pathways for their students in pursuing their post-graduate degree. One of them is through Ganesha Talent Assistantship (GTA) program that offers highly motivated ITB alumni either 50% (partially funded) or 100% (fully funded) scholarship to their tuition fee. Moreover, it also comes with an additional monthly stipend as an exchange for the liability given to the granted students, which is a position as an academic assistant, required to fulfill 4-8 hours per week.

To sum up, having the chances to pursue both bachelor and master’s degree here in ITB is a fun, eventful, and memorable experiences that can hardly being exchanged for anything else. The opportunities in meeting a lot of great colleagues, seniors, and lecturers makes networking also become one of the upside in spending the past years in this faculty.”
