RASHID YAGOUB

Alumni of the ITB Aerospace Engineering Master Program

The Faculty of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering (FMAE) routinely accepts new international students every year to the student body. Most of the current international students at FMAE are studying at the graduate programs, either at the master’s or Ph.D. level. Many of our international alumni have now returned to their country to apply the skills and knowledge they have acquired at ITB. One of the best recent graduates is Rashid Yagoub, who majored in Aerospace Engineering and proudly graduated with honors (Cum Laude). Rashid Yagoub is an alumnus of the MSc program at ITB, majoring in Aerospace Engineering. He is originally from Sudan and just completed his two-year study at ITB. Rashid’s study was financially supported by the KNB (Kemitraan Negara Berkembang) scholarship. Before his study at ITB, Rashid studied the Indonesian language for a year and received a certificate in Bahasa Indonesia bagi Penurut Asing (BIPA) with excellent grades. Rashid then began studying at ITB in August 2018.

Rashid is very passionate about the world of aerospace engineering. Before his studies at ITB, Rashid studied at the Sudan University of Science and Technology (SUST) majoring in Aerospace Engineering. Rashid completed his undergraduate course in 2015 after finishing his final research project on the aerodynamic investigation of UAVs. After graduating from SUST and before continuing his studies at Masters in Aerospace Engineering ITB, Rashid worked for one year as an aerodynamic analysis engineer in Sudan. Rashid also attended a workshop on the Aerodynamics of UAV which was held in Bandung for 3 weeks. He also participated in The Asia-Oceania Top University League on Engineering (AOTULE) event in 2018.

Rashid graduated with honors and was one of the outstanding students during his postgraduate study. Apart from his academic achievements, Rashid also engaged himself in many voluntary activities in the field of education. Rashid participated in an event hold by Home Volunteer – International Humanity Foundation and worked with multinational teams to provide education and housing for poor children in Indonesia, Kenya, and Thailand. Besides, Rashid also participated in Volunteer-Community Empowerment (Ceria) at Universitas Airlangga for 14 days to help empower the community through children’s education and social activities.

For his Master’s thesis, Rashid performed research on the aerodynamic design of morphing airfoils via bi-level optimization using machine learning techniques and genetic algorithm supervised by Dr. Lavi Rizki Zuhal and Dr. Pramudita Satria Palar. After his graduation, Rashid is now working as Experimental Aerodynamic Engineering at the Aeronautical Research and Development Center in Khartoum. Besides, Rashid is also working as a part-time lecturer at the Sudan University of Science and Technology.

Rashid did not miss his opportunity to travel across Indonesia. Rashid has a great interest in the culture and natural geography of Indonesia. Rashid often traveled to other cities in Indonesia, including Jogjakarta, Bali, Surabaya, and Jakarta. Rashid even said that people around him are very kind and friendly, never missed a smile on their face. For sure, Rashid enjoyed Indonesian cuisine a lot! Some of his favorites are Ayam Geprek (literally “smashed” chicken), Satay, and Nasi Padang.  Rashid also said that he wanted to come back and visit Indonesia again, and it is on the list of his priorities in life.

We sincerely thank Rashid for choosing FMAE ITB for one of the most pivotal moments in his life and hopefully he can also inspire other students to do so. We look forward to welcoming you back to our beloved campus again!
