On 24th March 2021, the material engineering alumni association of ITB (Keluarga Alumni Material – KAM) donated a Spectroscopy UV-VIS instrument to the Laboratory of Metallurgy and Material Engineering, FMAE ITB. The event was held in Aston Tropicana Hotel, Cihampelas, Bandung. The handover was represented by the head of KAM, Ari Kurniawan, S.T. (material engineering alumni class of 2005), to the head of the Laboratory of Metallurgy and Material Engineering, Dr.Ir. Raden Dadan Ramdan. The funding was gathered from the alumni of ITB’s material engineering, class of 1994 to 2015.

During the event, instrument training was also conducted with some material engineering lecturers, academic assistants, and technicians joined the training as participants. During this pandemic situation, health protocol was strictly applied to ensure the health and safety of the participants. The addition of new educational and research facilities to the Material Engineering Laboratory will greatly improve the learning process of the students in the Material Engineering study program of FMAE ITB.

On 1st April 2021, the Aerospace Engineering Alumni association of ITB (Ikatan Alumni Penerbangan – IAP) also donated a 3D printer instrument to FMAE ITB. Prof. Tatacipta Dirgantara, as the dean of FMAE ITB, joined this event and formally received the new instrument from IAP. The objective of this donation is to aid FMAE ITB in creating future Indonesia’s technocrats and innovators. This donation program is supported by Komisariat ITB 96 through @itb96runners #bi96oys #bi96irls communities. The type of the 3D printer is SUBSOLID Xs manufactured by 3dprint.id, whose co-founder is an alumnus of ITB, Alvin R. Tanto (Mechanical Engineering, Class of 2010).

The new 3D printer will support the study and boost students’ innovation during their study in FMAE ITB. Besides, the new 3D printer will also be utilized to support non-profit organizations, e.g. TanganKita.org whose mission is to aid people with physical disabilities in Indonesia. This organization specializes in providing 3D printing of hand prosthetics.
